Quilting on Domestic Machine
Couldn't load pickup availability
We want your class experience to be fun and stress-free. Here are a few things to know before you sign up:
- We need at least 2 students for a class to run. If we don’t reach that number, we’ll reschedule and make sure you get a spot in the next session.
- Class fees are non-refundable, but life happens! If you can’t make it, we’ll gladly move you into a future class of the same type (as long as there’s room).
- If you miss class without letting us know, we won’t be able to offer a refund or reschedule.
- Safety comes first. If the weather is unsafe, we’ll reschedule and keep you updated by email or phone.
Quilting on Your Domestic Machine
Learn to quilt confidently with the machine you already love!
If you’ve been wanting to finish your own quilts but aren’t sure where to start, this class is for you. Together, we’ll walk through how to set up your domestic sewing machine for quilting and explore a variety of techniques that will help you finish your projects with confidence and creativity.
What We’ll Cover
We’ll start with the basics—preparing your quilt top, batting, and backing—then move into hands-on quilting techniques, including:
- Choosing the right needles, threads, and presser feet
- Straight-line quilting with a walking foot
- Free-motion quilting for curves, fillers, and fun motifs
- Tips for handling bulk and keeping your stitches looking great
- Helpful guidance on batting, thread choices, fabrics, and planning your quilting designs
You’ll also get to enjoy a mini trunk show, where we’ll look at examples of free-motion quilting, rulerwork, couching, stencil work, and even a little art quilting for inspiration.
Practice Makes Progress
To help you make the most of your time in class, each student will receive a practice kit that includes:
- Two ½-metre cuts of fabric
- Batting for one quilt sandwich
We’ll divide the sandwich into 8–10 blocks and practice different quilting motifs on each one. This is a relaxed, supportive environment—perfect for trying new things and building your skills.
Please bring your own thread.
Tools to Try
We’ll have quilting rulers, stencils, and pounce available for you to experiment with—no need to bring your own unless you want to.
