We know that Aurifil 50wt has become a go-to for many thanks to its thin, strong versatility. A sewing room staple, it's often used for a variety of techniques like piecing, appliqué, or EPP. But, what about Aurifil 40wt? Slightly heavier than 50wt, but just as lustrous and easy-to-use, it has become the unsung hero.

Tips for working with Aurifil 100% Cotton 40wt
Bobbin: When using 40wt thread in a domestic or longarm machine, we recommend using Aurifil 50wt in the bobbin.

Needle: It is best to use an 80/12 or 90/14 Topstitch or Sharp Needle in your domestic machine. We recommend a 2.5 or 3.0 Needle for Longarm quilters. A straw or milliner needle size 9 or 10 works wonderfully when hand stitching with Aurifil 40wt thread.
